| The firm's Summer Associate Program offers first- and second-year law students an opportunity not only to gain experience in legal research and writing but also to observe the practice of law first hand. Summer Associates will observe depositions, client and witness interviews, and trials or hearings. The firm views the Summer Associate Program as one of its best recruiting tools; about one-third of the firm's attorneys are former Cooper & Walinski Summer Associates.
Cooper & Walinski recruits students in the top 20% of their class, especially those with law review or moot court experience. It also considers previous clerkship experience and other personal, educational, and occupational achievements in evaluating applicants for the Summer Program.
Each Summer Associate is paired with a mentor who is a practicing attorney in the firm. The Manager of Operations strives to ensure that each Summer Associate works with a number of attorneys and on a variety of projects.
Cooper & Walinski accepts resumes, writing samples, and transcripts from interested applicants and conducts on-campus interviews. The firm also considers second- and third-year students for clerk positions during the school year.
