Employee Handbooks:  Everything You Need to Know to Keep You Out of Trouble in Ohio

Cooper & Walinski attorneys participate in seminar on Employee Handbooks.

Several attorneys from Cooper & Walinski, LPA will be participating in the seminar "Employee Handbooks: Everything You Need to Know to Keep You Out of Trouble in Ohio" presented by Lorman Education Services at the Toledo Riverfront Hotel on December 7, 2007.

The moderator for the day will be Janis E. Susalla Foley, an attorney with Cooper & Walinski, LPA, who practices primarily in the areas of employment and tort defense litigation.  She is certified by the Ohio State Bar Association as a specialist in employment and labor law.  Ms. Foley will be speaking on the topic of handbook provisions relating to employee training, performance, discipline and termination.  She will also being teaching practical tips for compiling and writing employee handbooks.

 Also speaking at the seminar will be Cooper & Walinski, LPA attorneys, Margaret J. Lockhart, Janelle M. Schaller, and Christopher J. Timmermans.  The topics they will be covering include:

  • EEO Provisions Addressing Discrimination, Harassment, Retaliation and Reporting Procedures,
  • Legal Issues Regarding Communications and Related Handbook Requirements,
  • Dealing With Wages, Hours, Attendance, Leave and Benefits in the Handbook.

 The seminar is worth 6.0 hours of continuing legal education credits, 7.0 hours of continuing education toward the Certified Bookkeeper requirement through the AIPB, and 6.0 hours of credits toward PHR and SPHR recertification through the Human Resource Certification Institute.
