Cooper & Walinski Attorney Advises Students in Mock Trial Competition
Mock Trial Competition

On Friday, February 1, 2008, eleven St. Ursula Academy students, advised by Cooper & Walinski attorney Janelle Schaller and Perrysburg Municipal Court Magistrate James Schaller II, competed in the Ohio Center for Law Related Education's Toledo District Mock Trial competition. The Mock Trial competition was sponsored by the Toledo Bar Association and was held at the Toledo Municipal Court. St. Ursula entered two teams in the competition, and two St. Ursula students were recognized as Outstanding Witnesses.

The fictional case the students argued concerned a dispute between a city and a church allowing the homeless to sleep on its property. Janelle and James worked with the team for several months, helping the students understand the law, develop opening and closing arguments, and practice direct and cross examination.

This was the fourth year that Janelle, a St. Ursula Academy graduate, and James advised St. Ursula Academy's mock trial teams.
