Margaret J. Lockhart
Margaret practices in the areas of labor and employment law, commercial litigation, insurance coverage litigation, and education law.  She is certified by the Ohio State Bar Association as a specialist in employment and labor law.  She has tried cases in both state and federal courts and before state and federal administrative agencies.  Margaret also handles labor negotiations, arbitrations, policy and handbook reviews, teacher termination proceedings and supervisor training for private and public sector employers.  Margaret lectures frequently on labor and employment law topics.  She carries Martindale-Hubbell's AV rating and has been listed in annual editions of Ohio Super Lawyers and Best Lawyers in America.

Margaret served for ten years as a judge pro tem of the Perrysburg Municipal Court.

Before joining the firm, Margaret served as law clerk to the Hon. Robert E. DeMascio, U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.

She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of William and Mary in 1982 and a law degree magna cum laude from Rutgers University Law School in 1986.  Margaret was Editor-in-Chief of the Rutgers Law Review

  • Martin v. Dana Driveshaft Manufacturing, U.S. District Court, Northern District of Ohio (2009).  Lead counsel for employer.  Obtained summary judgment on race discrimination and retaliation claim.
  • Echlin, Inc. v. National Union Insurance Co., Lucas County Common Pleas Court (2008).  Co-counsel for corporate policyholders seeking defense costs and indemnity for underlying product claims.  Negotiated resolution of case after court awarded policyholders' summary judgment on liability and bad faith.
  • Isbell v. Johns Manville, 2007 Ohio App. LEXIS 4716 (2007).  Lead counsel for employer.  Obtained summary judgment on race discrimination and harassment claims.
  • Gardull v. Perstorp Polyols, 382 F. Supp. 2d 960 (N.D. Ohio 2005).  Lead counsel for employer in ADA case.  Obtained summary judgment.
  • Siebert v. Dana Corporation, 2005 U.S. Dist. Ct. LEXIS 5450 (N.D. Ohio 2005).  Lead counsel for employer in FMLA retaliation and defamation case.  Obtained summary judgment.
  • Ulmer v. Dana Corp., 2004 U.S. App. LEXIS 21311.  Lead trial and appeal counsel for employer in discrimination case.  Obtained defense verdict at trial and affirmance on appeal.
  • Dana Commercial Credit Corporation v. The Federal Insurance Company (N.D. California 1994).  Co-counsel for policyholder seeking coverage for employee theft.  Negotiated resolution of claim after obtaining favorable court rulings on policy defenses.
  • NLRB v. Health Care & Retirement, 987 F.2d 1256 (6th Cir. 1993), aff'd, 114 S. Ct. 1778 (1994).  Co-counsel for employer in case where Supreme Court rejected NLRB's long-standing definition of supervisory status in health care facilities.  Lead counsel in the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.
  • Put in Bay Island Taxing District Authority v. Colonial Inc., 65 Ohio St. 3d 449 (1992).  Lead counsel on appeal for taxpayer who successfully challenged constitutionality of statute taxing island businesses.
  • Frazier v. Health Care & Retirement Corporation, Jackson County, Michigan.  Lead trial counsel for employer in sexual harassment case.  Obtained defense verdict.
